And I personally think that there with still be struggles with popularity, judgment, etc, just not as much. Like if you are trying to get hired for a job. If you have a bunch of tattoos, the boss may judge you for that and not hire you even if he/she is a very nice, genuine person. Its not fair at all.

Yes i think that in the "real world" there will be mean and obnoxious people, but when you're an adult you have learned how to deal with situations like that so they don't happen as often. Also adults are not as self conscious as kids, i have many scarring experiences where adults (usually my parents) demonstrate that they do not care at all what other people think of them...

I think the theme of the story is that the people may look nice on the outside but it doesn't mean they are nice on the inside. It also shows that you don't need someone else to feel good about yourself. We meet lots of people in life and they won't always be kind but you need to learn who will accept for you and not just what you look like or have. But there will always be someone who will accept you and like and you just need to understand that and not just want more then what you have. Some people just think about popularity and looks and hurt or make fun of other propel to boost their egos or think it's cool so they do that to get others to like them. But there will always be people like that and you just need to be confident about yourself and work through it.

After some discussion here..... What would you say is the theme of this story? (Check out my last post to see a link on defining theme) and why? I think the theme of the story is popularity, and how it effects people. Or how people think of it.

I think the theme of the story is that the people may look nice on the outside but it doesn't mean they are nice on the inside. That's a good point Leslie. People need to think how their actions effect people.

id say the theme of the story is its not very important to be popular. You dont need to have a gf/bf or a big group of friends, you just need one friend who cares about you, can relate to you and that understands how your feeling. It doesint matter what age or where you are in life but theres always going to be a person like K.C. He should have realised that looks arent everything and he shouldint have been such a jerk.

since there's more comments back about the theme i thought i would add that i think of course its about how popularity and mean jokes affect people but also about making the best out of things because they decided to forget about K.C. and just have a fun time together and that's all that really matters.

Like Cheryl said there will always be kenny cambells in the world, but look at life a lot of the time the rude, obnoxious, self absorbed, attention seeking, JERKS aren't just in middle school. So many people out there are unkind maybe people from the ages 6-60 for all we know, but the best thing we can do is be positive and gentle to people who are like that because maybe they have issues at home or something. So all we gotta do is stay kind and be nice because WE REALLY DON'T KNOW.( this is my reply to Mrs.Moreau's question).

i agree with shiloh most people who feel the need to judge others for the most part are insecure with themselves or not happy with there life so they feel the need to pick on others because they need to feel satisfied with themselves

k.c i feel didnt think twice about how she would feel and what the outcome of his actions would be and as i am and all you are teenagers we all know how it is doing without thinking and the outcome can be that some people get hurt in the process in certain situations like this one in the story and it was wrong and the littlest action can lead to fgreater things such as suicide or severe trauma

I think the moral of this story is that it doesent matter what you look like on the outside but what is on the inside that counts.

Yes Davey very sensitive. But in the end that really is true. Unfortunately for some people life isn't like that. I mean cuz what if they are just insufferably ugly? What I just posted is really horrible thing to say,but what if it's true? Sometimes someone can be hot and nice at the same time,or ugly and mean,or ugly and nice, or totally hot, but a jerk like k.c.In the end Davey is right though. I think this post is what everyone is too afraid to say.(oh gosh how unsensitive can I get) Anyways... carry on!!!
